Remoting example - part 3... The Configuration

We are done with the Flex and java part.... The only thing we are left with is the BlazeDS configuration.

We were spared the basic legwork when we copied the deployment structure from an existing example.... so we got all the required libs... and we got a readymade web.xml

Now regarding the BlazeDS config files.

In the deployment.. go to folder ... \WEB-INF\flex

Here you will see four config files. Explaining the significance of each is beyond my scope. For our purpose... the only one we are interested in is remoting-config.xml

This file will specify, which remote class to hit. Only a few changes in original file are required.

Remoting example - part 2... The Flex part

Small Recap from last post..

we made a deployment structure for our project...
and wrote a very small java class

Now for the flex part. Here I am using Flex Builder 3... so if you are using another version.. things might be a bit different.

Lets start by creating a new flex project...The important things are marked in the screenshot below...

Choose the application server as J2EE...

next......

In the root folder select the deployment we created in the last post.

Next comes the output folder.... i.e. where you want your .swf to be....
Now you can see where the blazeds_demo_output folder in our deployment came from.

That your are using a remote directory as output folder will also be shown in Flex builder in the project explorer... with a small white arrow icon on the 'bin-debug' folder.

In the next step.. choose ur main application file....

Once the project has been created...... go into project properties -> flex compiler.

You should see something of the sort...

The part within the redbox is very imp. It points to the BlazeDS configuration file. If you have done everything correctly... this should auto-generate. If it is not present.... write it down manually.

I wont go into explaining the entire piece of code. In essence, you create a remote object, define ur event .listeners, set the required properties..,make the call to the java function[remoteObject.refreshData(9);] ... and hope that it works...

The important part to understand is...

remoteObject.destination="demo";

In source , specify the fully qualified class name ... and in destination, specify the class name.

One last thing left is the BlazeDS configuration..We will cover it in the next post.

Remote Objects is one of the way to get data from server side along with Web services and HTTP Services. And it is also the fastest.... for mainly because....communication takes place in AMF which is a binary format..

You will need something .. a go-between between flex and java... for eg. LCDS.. or BlazeDS...Today we will find out how to make a simple server side call using BlazeDS....

The simplest way to start will be to download the Blazeds turnkey setup from the adobe website... it comes with its own Tomcat and many sample apps in it....
Once this is done... we are just going to copy one of the project folders from the 'webapps' of the provided Tomcat... Why ???? ... Just so that it will include all the needed libs and config files.

So I will just copy this 'blazeds' folder.... and use it whatever App server I am using. In my case... it was again a regular Tomcat which i used for all my POCs.

The lib contains all the required blazeds library files...

The flex folder contains the very necessary configuration files. Few of them are...

Services-config.xml
Remoting-config.xml

I have only mentioned these because for our very-very simple example... we are only goin to need these. Also... our web.xml is completely built... so no headache there too.

So what i did was... just copied the entire structure.... renamed it(just because i wanted to) ... and pasted it in my regular Tomcat....

From now on... it will be called demo . Also notice the directory blazeds_demo_output . It was put there later... so dont worry about it right now.

I also made a package... called "com" . Put the regular folders in their regular places..... src/com and classes/com.

Next... the java code....

Now what i will do is... make a really-really simple java class... with only a single function... and a totally-public constructor...

Now we just need to call the function 'refreshData()' from the flex side... with an integer argument.. and wait for it to increment it and return the result.

Lets see how it works out....

When you try to retrieve an instance of ApplicationFacade..... the initializeController() is called automatically.... hence... "leaving initialize controller". What it does behind the scene is register our Command class and Proxy.
At creationComplete() of the application two functions are called.... facade.startup() which actually does nothing at all... as the trace shows.. and init() in which we register our ApplicationMediator. So the next trace is from the Mediator constructor. "application mediator constructor" .
Press the button on the screen.."Button was clicked on UI". We create a new Event and dispatch.
The listener for this particular event was already registered in the mediator...
The function send out a notification.... "will send to load data command" .. And Command classes are initiated by notifications.
In LoadDataCommand... execute() is called automatically. And there we call the proxy.
In proxy.displayGData() .. we create an HTTP Service... just to get some data from the dummy xml file..."creating HTTP service..." followed by ..."data request sent"
We wait for result/fault to come...
"in RESULT event.. send DATA RECEIVED notification to mediator" ... Got the result back... need to show this data on the screen. Since mediator is responsible for the UI components...what better place to communicate this... After sending the notification to Mediator, the result handler will exit. Since its totally asynchronous... we dont really know when the next line "exiting RESULT event" will be executed.
Back to mediator. Mediator has two important functions. listNotificationInterests() and handleNotification() . The prior just tells that Mediator is interested in which notifications... while the latter has the corresponding code for handling notifications when they come through.
"data retrieved... populate data on screen now ".. The notification is retrieved... You can either piggyback the data received from server side with the notification.... or if the data has been cached in proxy..you just get an instance of proxy to access it. In this example, I have done nothing of the two.
Once you have data in mediator.... just do whatever yoo want to do with it.

This is just a sample application flow..... this can be modified to a large extent, but its the simplest one you will come across, and it'll demonstrate the complete functionality provided by PureMVC.

Apologies for the long-long delay.... lets dive right into it.

Disclaimer: I wont go into the API, or the class hierarchy at all.... If that is what you need, Google it up.. lots of stuff available.

If you are not aware of the advantages of using a framework, let me quickly summarize

helps in structuring the code. There can be a separation of concern w.r.t the code. If tomorrow your application is acting up, you will know directly where the problem might lie and wont have to debug the complete thing
removes boilerplate code..... atleast some amount...

pureMVC consists of 4 things...They are:

Proxy(Model part) - this will get ur data..from java,webservice etc.
Command(Controller part) - think of this as the part where you can list down the activities which needs to be done.... From my very small experience, this is just the go-between for the view and proxy. And this is where I usually create my requestDTOs.
Mediator(view part) - This along with the actual screen components(.mxml) form the view. This will show the data to the user.. and accept user inputs.
Facade (the middleman) - Something through which the above three talk to each other. My team lead says and i quote "It helps in a loose coupling". I suppose loose-coupling is a good thing.

Apart from above four, you need to know "Notifications". Notifications is the way pureMVC components talk to each other, apart from the "events" which flex provides. Notifications work in a rather different way than events. Its kind of like a paper-delivery model. You register 'somewhere' that you want to read a newspaper.. and its delivered to you.
In the preceeding line, that 'somewhere' is usually the facade.

Proxy - send Notifications
Commands - are usually initiated by Notifications
Mediator - send and receive Notifications

For coding purposes only..... Model,View,Controller ... these will be your package names.... or to put it more bluntly, these will be folders where you will put up ur corresponding code.

Now our problem statement.
WAP in Flex 3 which will on press of a button on the screen, call a java function and print the number which it returns. And for fun, do it using pureMVC.

First of all, go download the single core library file for pureMVC.

Done ?? Fire up eclipse and lets create a new project...

Adobe Flex using pureMVC and BlazeDS tutorial - intro

This has taken a long time coming..... but finally I can put some effort into this.

I started working with AdobeFlex, pureMVC and BlazeDS about a year back. It was mostly self-effort apart from a 2 hr initial tutorial(crash-course) by a senior(by the end of which i was sitting with my mouth open).

I am no expert and have very less experience in this field. But when asked to make a small POC, I faced hell.

There are a lot of tutorials out there....some of them are pretty good ones.

I'll list a few of them here later on..... but the gist of the story is that i consulted all of them and it took me a month to make what is essentially a one day job.

What I am going to put here is not an idiot's guide. Its for someone who is worse off than an idiot.. just like I was(maybe still am).

Assumptions:
1. Know basics of Adobe Flex(i used SDK 3.3 . Its pretty old now .. but i'll use this only).
2. Understand why we need a design pattern(in this case pureMVC).
3. Understand basics of how to do a deployment(For instance...if you can answer this question... "why do I need a web.xml" ... you'll be fine).

I wont go into the details of pureMVC. Read up a basic tutorial....

And if this diagram made you vomit, dont worry .... you are in good company

This is a highly simplified diagram BTW. They have got worse in the official docs.

What I am going to do, is make a small POC with detailed steps and include instruction on how to deploy etc.

Objective: Create a small flex project, using pureMVC . Use "Remote objects" in Flex to fetch data from Java, and display the data on the screen.

Requisites: Flex SDK, FlexBuilder(not necessarily), Java SDK, BlazeDS libraries, single core pureMVC library, Apache Tomcat.

*Dont know what Remote Objects or BlazeDS are ??? Go back to step one of assumptions.

The tutorial will be spread over multiple posts and though I'll try to keep the info compartmentalized, it'll always be in the loop with our objective.

This is a very old photograph of my friend Kartik Gosain (or Bony as everyone called him) from one of my birthday parties. I dont even remember which birthday it was... but i do remember Bony as one of my oldest friends.

I first met him when he started coming to our home for tution from mom. He was of same age as I and in the same standard and we quickly struck a friendship...must have been class 3rd or 4th....

We spent many hours playing cricket outside and several other games inside where we shot down imaginary space ships from our very own rocket(the bed)..... and we took turns playing the pilot.... who had a small round thing to use as the steering wheel..

He was a regular at my home as I was at his....

After 12th he spent some time at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce...after which he went to hyderabad to pursue Hotel management..

That was the time when drifted apart.... and only met about once or twice a year...

It was his third year at Hyderabad when we came home for some time and he told me how he had gotten bored of eating lobster and chicken everyday..... Man i was jealous....and then there was the booze... He told me that he was interested in bar tending... and then i quizzed him for hours on different types of drinks and how to tell which was better...

Last time we met he had finished his studies and was placed in ITC. He was shortly leaving for Gurgaon where his preliminary training would take place.

Then after some months he scrapped me that he was now working in ITC Maurya, Chennai.....

Kartik died today morning(13 April 2009) after being on life support for many days. He had been in a bike accident a few days earlier....

I'll remember you always......

Its been a real long break...... approx 4 months since i came here... would like to blame the low bandwidth (coupled with low patience) for my prolonged absence.... Idea GPRS has really started stinking..

A lot has happened over the past few months... i made another trip to lucknow and it was rather boring this time around.... had my sem 3 exams.... had a blasting new year's party at my place.... got a conformation that my luck while playing cards has finally run out... and also made a bi-annual pilgrimage to the auto expo.

Auto expo was a good show.... not so much about the cars this time around as it was about the things hanging/draping/lying over the cars. Tata Nano looked nice.... Volkswagen and Fiat had the hottest models.... and saw ASIMO dancing. But the approx 7 hrs of walking has to be the headline... I actually had to walk from pragti maidan to CP before i could catch some transportation...

I didnt spend my breaktime lying around.... i did think up a few posts..... for eg. the 2nd test match between india and australia..... but looks like that aint gonna happen now....

Let me now recount an incident which happened tomorrow and actually made me start this post...
So its around 0855hrs and the college starts at 0930. Am still in my hostel room about to go for a bath when my room-mate takes the bucket and ocupies the last empty shower-room. Now I aint gonna hang around all day....and i still had to get the breakfast. So as soon as my roomie kept the bucket inside and went out to get his clothes or something.. i saw my chance and rushed in....HEH HEH....
Now the trouble starts.. my room mate comes back and he starts shouting and kicking the door.... what else could he do....
I told him to sick around for a few min as i'll be out very soon.2 mins go by and i am done... but the damn door just won't open.
As it happened... all the kicking on the door bent the latch locking the door.

This was some serious shit... and i for one could never scale the 8 foot high wall of the shower room.

Finally after much shouting... and one of my friends jumping down in the same room(he could lift his body weight..WOW!!!).. we finally had to break the lock....

AH.... the sweet scent of freedom.......

We were at shopprix... a mall in sec 58 noida playing pool.. when we saw that they r putting up a screen.... there and then it was decided that instead of going to our friends place in mohannagar(somewhere near/in gaziabad)... the match will be played out here....

With front row seats reserved and two cheese burst pizzas and a chicken tadoori down .. we r set

And lemme tell u.... india winning the cup was just the icing on the cake..... we really had a blast out there with about 500 people joining us....

The third part of my series from lucknow never happened........its been a long time since i got back and was wanting to post for a while but couldnt find any interesting topic.....

Infact i still dont have any topic right now and still dont know where this post is heading....

Witnessed some interesting things over the past few weeks...... observed an elopement....sat for 3 hrs in a car and heard 4 songs being repeated over and over again on almost all the radio stations... etc etc....

Rest is all the same...

By now i have decided the title of this post..... and am sure after reading the post many will agree..... this is writing for just the sake of posting something....

Hopefully will come up with something better next time

The second day of my trip comes to an end…… and in all it has been far from boring… except in patches….
U visit one mall… and u have visited them all.. The malls in lucknow didn’t have anything new to offer…. The same pretty (and awesome) crowd (read girls)… the usual brands..... familiar mutiplexes etc.etc…..
One observation though… there are more girls riding bikes and scooties than I have ever seen in delhi..
Coming to the historical monuments…. There is one which goes by the name of bara imambara…… don’t ask me what it means…. From what I gathered was it’s a very good architectural achievement what they have managed there couple of hundred yrs ago

There was just one thing which was highly amusing… look at the pic on top…

See the fishes…….. concentrate n their mouths….

These are what I call “Angry fishes”……why the………… infact who the hell made up these fishes the way they are… they seem to be so pissed off that they’ll chew off somebody’s head at a moments notice…..

And lastly we come to the most famous part of lucknow…. No its not kumari mayawati… its actually the food….. after having so many kebabs and different types of chicken spread over the last 2 days….. am just bursting…. The last one I ate… it has actually necessitated quite a lot of trips to…………. to……..someplace…

Met a friend from my college who resides here… went out for a ride with him.. and saw an “ambedkar park” . The funny/tragic thing is that this park was constructed completely way back(and was a good tourist spot)… last time mayawati was in power… and now that she is in power again… she is stripping it up and building almost all of it again..
Also saw a half completed bridge which was being built by mulayam singh especially for cycle riders. Now the work on it has been completely abandoned..and will remain so until mulayan singh is back in power…. When I expressed my astonishment at this kinda crap.. he even showed me another half completed flyover…. On which work was started the last time BJP was in power……

Not much planned for the next two days… mebbe a bit of shopping…. And the ride back home day after tomorrow…… all alone……..

Musings from Lucknow : on the way

This post is being written enroute to lucknow….. and I still dunno when I’ll be able to post it….. do they have the internet thingy in the capital of ulta Pradesh…… guess I’ll find out soon enough.

Anyhow.. its been a long time since I traveled in a train….. and a much..much longer time since I did it overnight. Also a first is traveling in three tier AC….. having been given the top berth… with not much else to do.. I was rather impatient to climb up and switch on the laptop…. About 15 min since I have been up here and the only thought in my mind is……HOW THE HELL AM I GONNA CLIMB DOWN…. The upway trip was quite breathtaking….. the downward trip could be lifetaking…… I am not cut out for such stuff…… give me my escalators and massage chairs… and the entertainment unit… and the cute air hostesses… and the …. Did I mention the comfortable chairs…..

The damn train has again stopped…. Atleast while in air u don’t have to face the plane stopping again and again…. And if it does…… well… there is not much u can do..

The college is about to start in a few days…. The hols have been rather monotonus… except the project work….

Thankfully the train has picked upspeed and I am feeling what must be the equivalent of airpockets ….. looks like the train is dancing a jig….

How do u feel about the newest tai in town…… Am talking about her excellency…Madam president pratibha tai…. Watching the whole president election process this time around was a very funny and at the same time highly distressing . Though am still waiting how the NDA guys will now talk to the person whom they accused of murder and dacoity and constipation and whatnot….

Lets see if I am able to post from lucknow…. Otherwise…. We’ll have to wait till we r back home….

Water at odd hrs......

Pls excuse for using such a lame line for a post..... but this is what just happened...

Anyone living in delhi will vouch for the water scarcity during summers...... we received only about half an hour of water supply in the evening.....
To my surprise... at 0035hrs i hear water running in the bathroom.....
Everyone else is asleep...... i gotta get off my ass and do something... quickly fill up a balti(bucket) or two... nice surprise for mom when she gets up in the morning....

Atleast i'll be able to take a bath tomorrow... as if i want to......
On second thoughts.. i guess i'll have to..... have to go back to college tomorrow... the least i can do before appearing before my HOD is look clean....

Moving on..... this past few days have been rather hectic..... dad got relocated.. so have been a little busy with that...
The project has been movig at a leisurely pace.... infact it has not been moving at all for the past3 days.... seems like its growing an attachment to me..... refuses to move forward... happy to be stuck in a place for all eternity..

A few days back.... a thought suddenly popped into my head... many years back i used to hear stories about people overclocking their cpus and graphic cards.....
long time since i last heard those stories.....
Whass the matter..... ... are the processors already running fast enough... i guess i could answer this ques with abt half a min of thinking(and searching).... but i really dont want to..

Switched to safari today..... looks squueaky clean.. like other apple products...

Now the thing is that this plane has been there for the past 2-3 yrs.... ever since i started using the metro. This seems like a strange place to park a plane..... its an unlikely tourist spot.... moreover who would like to see a broken old plane at the fag end of its life

U can urself see it when u cross the tis hazaari station while going towards kashmere gate.... just look down the left window as soon the train leaves tis haazari...

The exams went on fine enough........ Now a few days rest and then back to work...

Damn HUTCH....... Screw VODAFONE...... and those ESSAR F**** ....may the fleas taken from all the camels of every desert of this earth infest their crotches.....

The problem started around 4 months back when i got my prepaid number shifted to postpaid scheme......
I soon found out... that the call centre guys who call u offer an attractive package..... the guy who comes to give the sim card has a different story.... the guys who comes for verification gives a whole new twist and ...then.....

well... then comes the bill......

So far so good......
Anyhow... it happened around 4-5 days ago that my sim card started acting up...and i knew i had to get it replaced......so i go to the hutch shop..... but they cant do anything since their system is down.....
This story is repeated 4 times..... what kind of systems are these guys workiong on..i wonder..

Anyhow ... finally yesterday evening i finally find a working system at Welcome metro station. Now this idiot tells me to shell out 100 bucks for the sim... even when all the other guys were willing to do it for free...(ofcourse they couldnt as there systems were down)...
So there i am yelling at him..... he finally agrees to change my sim FOC..... gives the new card and says it will be activated withinn 2 hrs....
I come out feeling all happy and fuzzy.... the world's a better place to liove again.... all seems rosy now.....
Back to reality.............................. they gave me a F*****G wrong card... which would never be activated.... Of course they will apologize for their mistake..but i'll just have to go back to Welcome metro station......
Now with my exams just round the corner... i dont think i'll be undertaking that voyage...... i'll let my frustation and anger grow.... .. i'll nurture it as my own child....... and the day i get free...... mebbe u all would like to come to see some very fine display of fireworks...

Moving on... exams start from monday.... the centre is IITM.... opposite karkardooma court... ..
Went on a little reconnisance mission this monday... the college is situated just next to the big drain adjacent to the road goin towards preet vihar....

So this is what happens when u dare to watch Spiderman 3 on opening day...... witout hearing any reviews first...... HO HUM.... another day another kela..

Anyhow... these past few days have been rather hectic. In my last post i mentioned that our CG paper was going to be repeated. Well as it happened... all our damn midsem papers were repeated. These guys dont have much else to do other than trying to make our lives more miserable than ever... And then there was file submission..completed 3 practical files in 2 days flat. This might not be some kind of world record but its enough headache for me...

Anyhow.. friday was the last day of the second sem. This basically means that the first year of PG is practically over... barring the exams ofcourse.. How time flies....

Much has happened over this year.... I reopend this blog.... the activity on the second blog fell to an all time low..I moved into a hostel and had the time of a lifetime there... and yeah made great strides into the world of 'phukra-panti' ..... or as one of my erstwhile friend might put it as 'chichorrabaaji'.

Barring the first 2 days of hostel(introduction session) the hostel has been a complete fun filled and learning experience. Living away from home/family(..ok... ok.. not that far....) u learn how to manage off ur own small resources... completely depend on people u have just met.... and whatnot...

Rest not much has changed..... still unlucky in love...... studies still going not as strong as they are supposed to(even though i am doing much of the stuff second time round).. kelas still happen though not that frequently. My luck has been favouring me a lot more lately... as it happened a few days back when me and a friend were walking around the hostel completely unawares that warden was on the round and my friend was smoking away to glory....Really had a narrow escape that day.

Got a new cooler for the hostel room.... it had really been very hot for past few weeks.... but as luck would have it...the very day we got the cooler it rained in the evening... there was a pleasent and cool weather the next day round and a 8 hr powercut the following day. Hilarious stuff....

The spiderman3 was a complete disaster as would be obvious from the pic above. So the last day of college ended with a more of a whimper. Infact the whole trip to Shipra mall on friday was a completely boring trip. I had an awesome burger at KFC and it all went way south from there. There are variety of reasons for that but lets not go into the specifics as already this post is way too long. Mebbe someother time...

My mood swings have been rather quite frequent these past few days. Guess there is only one reason i can contribute all of it too.....

There was another party at haveli.... on 28th.. watched worldcup final all nite.... This really has been one of the shittiest sports event so far...ever...
And yeah.... one worrisome development is that my drinking capacity has really gone down over the past few weeks... is it the weather or something else...

The exams got postponed by a week...... so everything seems rather rosy right now..... but am willing to bet that as the week progresses things will only go downhill.

Delhi saw MCD elections.............. who the hell cares a shit about that.....not long time ago, supreme court was thinking about dismantling the entire thing.
And ofcourse UP saw some elections too....... the thing about that is........... that there is no intelligent thing about the elections in UP..... there will be hung assembly and the deciding factors will be casteism and ofcourse a lot and lot of horse trading...

BCCI came up with some decisions today... though i agree with most of them but the thing about restricting players to endorse only 2-3 products is somewhat harder to digest..

My very dear friend fuckinder got selected for TCS.... now this situation is totally funny in hundreds of ways..... this was the guy who went to the interview wearing shorts and no shirt..

..which brings me to another thing.... How many times have happened that u have just ate a big dinner and u go down for a walk... in between u suddenly get the idea that u strip down to ur shorts and continue with ur walk.......... not giving a damn abt whatever happening around u....

This may sound disappointing to some but this week was largely devoid of any kelas..........
Here comes a summary of what went on.....

Had my presentation this week............ thankfully i defied the laws of nature and it all went off peacefully without any kela happening in between.........

CSA teacher threw some students out of the class...... good thing i was absent on monday and had an iron clad excuse for not being prepared......Escaped a kela................

Then CSA lecture didnt happen for 2 days.....

Saw Thank you for Smoking...... lovely movie.......... so no kela there too....

Put up a bet on a match....... lost 9 bucks(damn u chandrapaul.....) ..... but another guy lost 105 bucks....so relatively speaking.... no kela here

Still stuck on the last round of Counterstrike..... but that has nothing to do with any category of kela

Just plain old luck that this week was only 3 days long..............

Moving along......... it has become clearer and clearer to me from some days that i suffer from a speech impediment.........
Usually when i am speaking i tend to speak way too fast and most of the times my mouth is full of saliva... so when the words come out they are either half eaten............ or more usually half digested.............. dont ask me the difference between the two

I think i really gotta do something about it....

I tried a few minutes to think of a joke about this particular problem of mine but came across nothing..... so any humor on this would be welcome...

My result for the first sem came up a few days back and am happy enough to scrap through.
I wouldnt want to top anyway.....it sends expectations way to high...and my funda of life is that the surest way to success is to keep ur expectations at such a low level that they are already met.....

Anyhow.... this week was a wee bit more happening than some earlier ones.
So one fine day after my cg paper(which went kinda ok..thanks to sg) my HOD enters the class and asks if any one of u bozos know something about the budget.....
And i wake up from my slumber just in time to catch the word bozo. ... U want a bozo.... ok... i am ur guy.... where do u want me.

She looked at me...... asked a couple of more times if anybody else would volunteer.. but as other people have better things to do.... she'll have to stick it to me.. Ok she says.... against my better judgement ... u'll have to go and join the audience on a damn show on NDTV and talk about the budget... U'll have to miss a couple of classes... and ofcourse u'll get attendance....a car will come to you and will drop u back.

Highlights of the week.... saw Borat.... its amazingly funny and i would recommend it to each and everyone.

The day i went on a rescue mission and came back with my ass hanging out

Continuing the never ending sagas of my kelas..... this week was rather quite adventurous for the kelaman....

It all hapened this thus..... five min to the beginning of class.... and i receive a call from a friend that he has been in a small accident not quite far from college... his bike is down and he has a wound on his back....
That was all that was needed to get the adrenaline pumping.....screw the CSA assignment.... run.... run ..run...
i enlisted the help of two more friends.... took a bike and rushed to the place..... the guy was OK... just a few scratches on the back... which would just require some cleaning and a tetanus shot... we put him on a bike and asked a friend to drive him to the nearby clinic..
Anyhow.. now two guys are stuck with a bike between them with me havent ridden a bicycle for the past 15 yrs and the other guy supremely confident that he can master any beast in this world..

So i take the back seat... and 2 secs later the bike is at a 90 degrees angle .....and am on the road.... with my pants wide split..... Rest of the details.. how i got back to college... i'll save for some other day...

With this quite adventurous incident still rather fresh in my mind.... later that day i decided that enough was enough..... i needed atleast a 5 hr spell on counterstrike to take my mind of things... so i obtain a long enough crossover cable... and connect my system to my friends system whose room is just below mine...(HELL YES.... there is no network in CDAC hostel.... and these are the guys who make supercomputers..... but wait.. those were the Banglore guys..)

And then our poor old dehati warden enters the scene.... this guy is a new entry in our hostel and i never came across him yet... ..

W: Whhaaaat iisss thiiiisss ??(pointing at the cable)
Me:its a lan cable.....

W: whhaaaaaaat issss thiiisss???
Me:(hell bent on making him feel technologically impaired) its a crossover lan wire.... by the way who the hell r u...(completely knowing he could only be the warden)

W: I yaam the waaarden.. Whaaat isss thiiiss.. what r u doooing ??
Me:I am sharing data with my friends PC downstairs..

W:Is it allowed...??
Me: (ofcourse... the hell its allowed...the worlds biggest recording studios cant stop P2P..who the fuck r u exactly) I find no particular reason why it shouldnt be allowed..

W: Whaatt isss thiiis.... where did u get thiiis??
Me: Its mine... got it from Nehru place.... its a big market in Delhi..

He wasted another 10 mins quizzing me.... repeated Whaat iiss thiiisss couple of more times and then went away to fetch the caretaker who thankfully could differentate between crossover and straight wire.. i guess!!!.....

It was just plain luck that though he entered my room... he didnt look under my roommate's table.. where there was a hotplate..a toaster..and a frying pan.. Now that would have been a real problem..

long time no post.........
exams got over on 2nd... today is the 10th.. 8 days of hols gome by.... and the only work i have done during these last few days has been to transport large quantities of food from the dining table to the toilet.... no wonder i feel that i have feel some extra stuffing around me. Guess its time to find those running shoes of mine.....

So much has happened since i last posted...... a whole year has changed..... though i think it would still take a month before i start writing 07 instead of 06...
So many things happened which are just waiting to made fun off..... some which force u to think... others which invite a debate..... and ofcourse there are some which make u wanna pull out ur own arm.......

Saddam got hanged...... no regrets.... i hardly knew the guy.... but what was funny was the reaction to it the world over.. Seems funny how a hanging video can really do awesome amount of PR for a dead guy.... and turn them from super villians to brave martyrs... mebbe dravid and sehwag should try this technique(Yeah..... India lost test series to south afica 2-1)

A girl committed suicide somewhere(was it kanpur... calcutta..dont remember)... and the reason given is that she was quite upset due to execution of saddam.. Ofcourse i completely understand the logic behind this..

The communists are acting up again. The talk about singur and tata group and salim group has been occupying headlines. Funny to see that though BJP tries to stop the sez from coming up... but supports them in states governed by itself..

First of all.... i must apologize profoundly to all my virtual/non existent readers for being missing in action for such a long time.... life at a hostel can be hectic.. more so when when u r doing a masters degree in computers and u dont have access to internet or for that matter even a damn computer.... and life can be more cruel when u realize that u r actually paying to live in this jail... far removed from anything resembling technology/civilization/life.....Any technology geek will understand the pain i felt.

But my return is solely attriuted to my friend Ankit's Blog........ after reading it i got the inspiration to waste more of my precious time (which i could have utilized sleeping...watching movie... eating.....whacking off...and GASP!!! studying) and pen down my thoughts which no one would read anyway. Atleast i'll be able to read this later somewhere down the line and laugh my head off.

Anyhow.... its abt 1215 right now.. on the 25th of dec... and i already received abt 20 cheesy msgs wishing a merry Xmas and a huppy new year....
But none of them really match up to one i read yesterday in a paper.. and i feel bound to repeat it here...... talking abt politcal correctness...... this is just the right kind of greeting we need in this religious/cultural tolerant country of ours..

Saw pirates of the carribean 2 yesterday..... simply awesome movie...

A day back i was at lifestyle mall at rajouri garden.... just to kill time went into the Bose showroom.... took the demo for their highmost home entertainment system... its called the lifestyle 48 and was simply mindblowing stuff.... the price tag... a very cool 2.6 peti...
This stuff just moved upto the top end of my wishlist..

moving on... looks like i'll be shifting to noida early next week...... going to CDAC finally.... am shitting in my pants on the thought of moving to the hostel... but lets see what happens...

These hols have been more boring than i could have ever perceived... atleast last time i was at training all the time... nowadays my life's sole purpose is to transpost large amount of food from the dining table to the toilet..... afterward i have come from my daily 4 km jog..

I was not going to study for MCA entrances anyhow... but now that i have secured admission in not that forsaken a place i think that i can relax a bit... .. but that's what i have been doing all this time.

Anyhow... onward to the point i have in mind today.
Many a times while i am chatting on the phone or through IM and someone asks me 'how i am doing' .. usually my basic reponse is that 'i am surviving' and it has become a pet line of mine..
Most of the people think that i am in trouble or something.... why using a term that suggests that i am just dragging on when all is not well..
After this i usually point out that darwin said 'survival of the fittest' and that's where my line comes from.
But last time i used this on one of my friends, he managed to really scare me to death. And after reading this u'll come to realise that even trying to survive in this world is quite an exercise.

He said that if I was so fond of darwin mebbe i should have looked into more of his writings.

Now it seems that our late departed friend Charles Darwin in the same book
i took the line from has used the example of a peacock to make another point.

He says that in the world around us only the beautiful and the fittest find mates..
and the rest of them just
watch poker faced and meanwhile they r wiped out.
That is how Natural Selectionworks...
the fittest keep going on while the rest just become extinct.

Yesterday(22 may 2006) in the editorial section of HT.... Sharad Yadav comes out all in support of reservation in higher education institutions.

The article convinced me atleast this guy surely need some education which might have been denied to him in his time......
His attempt to draw parallels between what happened in the 1800s to what is happening in 2006 shows his own damning ignorance. The socio-political situation in the country now is light years different from what it was hundred and fifty years ago. At that time untouchability was a big issue..in 21st century that is not the case. Moreover the british did not want to introduce education as a vote bank tool which Mr. Yadav makes quite clear is his intention. His talk about that the government would have to pay if quotas are not implemented clearly shouts out that all this reservation talk about social equality is grade A bullshit.
I do not at all think that OBCs are not fit for higher education but i do have a selfish intrest that this education must not come at my expense. Then there is the question of maintaing the level of quality of professionals coming out of these institutes. I would not like to be treated by a doctor who is there not because of his ability but because he belonged to a particular caste and was just able to dig his way through to medical school. Maybe Mr. Yadav would consider hiring him as a personal physician.
People who are already skilled enough do not at all need reservation to get ahead. And the people who are supporting reservation are clearly shouting out that "HEY!! We are the weak.. ..we are helpless...the neglected section of society... and we need to get ahead..no matter what the cost... we need quota to get where we would never be able to get with our ability".

And i would like to make one simple suggestion to the government if it decides to go ahead with the reservation scheme. If now the OBCs and SC/ST are getting the same quality of education as everyone else..maybe they should consider removing the reservation from government jobs and engineering services and shelve plans to introduce quota in private sector. If everyone is getting the same quality of education then what is the need for reservation in jobs???

The gaming console war is heating up..... though i have never owned a console myself but i have played a few rounds on NFS underground on a PS2 and got my hands dirty with HALO on an Xbox.. but still the console wars are too much to keep commenting from...

Sony had been the frontrunner on theis front for many years now... its PS1 and PS2 outsold any type of console before leaving out oldies such as ATARI and nintendo bitiong dust.......
PS2 with its top specs and great games to the boot changed how games were supposed to be played....

How could Billy Gates stop himself from tapping this market full of wannabe couch potatoes... enter Xbox..... a sexy black console with specs that would remind u of ur PC...no surprises... some hacks and u were running linux on Xbox in no time....... but we are deviating from the topic..

The in things are Xbox360, PS3 and the Nintendo Wii(pronunced WE).
Microsoft launched Xbox 360 late last year..... and aims to achieve 10 million sales before fall this season when the other two are expected to be launched....
For me the reason for buying a Xbox starts and finishes at Halo.... and i saw the video for Halo3..it looks just as promising as ever... but i also saw a preview on FIFA2006 on Xbox360..... man it was difficult to tell whether its reality or just a game....

My intrest in PS3 has all been academic till now.... all the talk about the cell processor and the much hyped blu-ray discs. Personally I have always been able to contain my enthusiasm about the PS3.... reason... i still dont think that there would be aby game available in the near future which would be able to take the use of the enormous computing power of its processors...... and then its price..at $499 for the lower end model and $599 for the high end model.... i read their specs and seriously speaking the lower end model sucks... Notice that the control has changed its shape.A sort of boomerang with long tapering ends was displayed at Cebit Hannover... Now the controls are same as in PS2..i'll come to this later..and guess what this new contrlloer has a motion sensor built in... now we wonder why sony would do that???????

Which brings me to Nintendo Wii.... my eyes shined with curosity when i heard about this little piece of equipment about a year back..... this thing will definitely bring in the new era of gaming... Nintendo might not be able to match the deep pockets of microsoft or the processing power of Sony but what its offering is surely to change the line which decides how games are played and how they are supposed to be played....

A complete unorthodox of playing games... instead of the regular game pad it has a sort of a thin remote control for one hand and a round curvy one for the another... and instead of buttons u now have motion sensors... i.e. now for playing a FPS u'll have to use the remote as a gun to aim and shoot... for playing tennis u'll actually have to move ur arms and swing the remote..The speed and direction of ur serve will actually depend on how you handle the remote....
Now this is awesome.... gives possibility for a complete new domain for game makers to explore. Its not just a ques of random movements.... but the realism offered by the device will bring the game into ur bedroom...wonder what mom will say when she sees u waving ur arms around and yelling bloody murder...... atleast she'll be happy that u r getting a much needed excercise...

Wonder how will it feel to actually wield a Light Saber..... or how would it be to slash up enemies in the POP:the two thrones...................

Da Vinci code is releasing next week.....and many christian groups around the world are already going for its head.....

Much has already been written about the book being a fact or fiction..... then there is the ever lingering question of faith..... aside from the fact that i think that the 'novel' is nothing but a story of a treasure hunt and maybe tries to be thriller sort of a thing...

The interesting fact is that official figures put the sale of the book at about 40 milllion copies... and i would say a good percantage of that would exclude the pirated copies and ebooks.... that too in parts of world where christanity is the major religion...

There might have been some protests... with Vatican slamming the book.... a couple of lawsuits maybe.....

The thing is that I am faced with the fact that what would happen if a similar book is to be written in India
.... suppose tomorrow a book comes out which talks about one of our hindu Gods(take anyone.... whatsoever..) and gives a story which goes completely in the opposite direction of whatever we have been hearing down the ages....
Davinci code says that the Bible is nothing but a history book..with many distored facts... and gives only one side of the story..
What would happen is someone comes out tomorrow and says that Ramayan and Mahabharat gives only one side of the story...(IF they actually did happen)...and all this was nothing but a cover up for some bigger crap...

First of all no publisher would have guts to do something of this sort...
Even if someone does go ahead with it Shiv sena and VHP would take on the streets..... a nation wide bandh would be called..... a mob would probably burn down the author's and publisher's homes..... possible riots... ...some hundreds killed.... breakdown of essential services... a few days later a politician will stand up and say that the book was all a conspiracy of the opposition parties to bring down his government..et all

Nothing of this sort happened in any other country when DaVinci was published....
The question is WHY???..... i got some possible answers...
1) The people reading the book are not that religious...hell.. they havent been to a church all their lives..
2) They are educated and idealistic people who actually understand what the book stands for.. and have the ability to part fact from fiction
3) They are so deeply religious that nothing can shake the foundations of their faith

And we.....are we so insecure about our religious faiths........ the question is damning... so is the possible scenario.......

well MotoPEBL is on the way of RAZR, same flat keypad(i think its of a metal),a unique opening style.. we have to press from upward then it opens up.not the typical Flap kind of Mobile. its different.. but feature wise Motorola Sucks..very small in size and like a egg shape, but it somewhere for the girls,and u can change the PANEL too..means the cover..

yesterday i saw 2 motorola mobile, L6 and RAZRv3i.. slim, slimmer and slimmest... but but and but both have all an all same features.. one costs 7k+ and other just double of 14k+..v3i supports memory stick name as Tflash(trans-flash),again a very unique card. its near of half the size of chips(both width as well as length) we used to use in CSA labs..nothing great if talking of Features in Motorola.. very slim phone,very slim features too.. picture from camera was very small in size.
(Note: all my comments on XPLORE magazine, some boys has objection, how i put that.. well i just make comment on my knowledge about the mobile,no piracy,and make the comment which was written or i heard of and send that..)
and yes guys i saw HUMKO DEWANA KAR GAYE(HDKG), ON A VIRATED VCD ha ha ha... quiet funny moment in the movie,but afterwards a boring one..

Kya yaar.... kuch padai nahin ho rahi....fati padi hai....

It took me four hours today just to give finishing touches to the report and then take the damn printouts...and then had to get them spiral bind.... ye college walon ne dimag kharab kar rakha hai...

Anyhow.... exam on tuesday... and nothing prepared.... and after 5 semesters i think i have forgot how to aim big...

We always go into the exam hall with one thought.... that we got nothing to lose.... but this time we do have something to loose... and i am not talking about ur ass.....
So i need a new mantra... and this is it :
Lower ur expectations to such a level that they are already met

Follow this and surely u'll always comeout from the examination room with nice big happy smile on ur face.... Dont aim high....... just aim that u'll pass..... aage peeche dekh ke itna toh ho hi jaayega..provided hitler na aaye....
I am expecting from myself that even showing up for the exam is a big achivement.... and i'll be ecstatic to achieve that.....

whooops... looks like some sorta error on blogspot... still reads 199... but whatever...lets make it 200....congrats to me to successfully make a community of bloggers(lets leave charsi out of this..that asshole)

200 posts in 4 months...started with 3 members...and now 7 active members and 2 sleeping... not counting the resignations and rejoining etc... surely shows that we have much free time.....

But.. college is over.... just another damn day to go..thanks to rajinder..... and i think its time some changes were made to the blog.

The thing is ..this blog was started for just talking about the everyday happening in college.....and to pen down my personal frustations........ (Mg take notice..no vendetta here).... Even the tag line for the blog states that too...

But now with college getting over.. i sincerely believe that we need a change.... mebbe a new blog... I wouldnt dream of modifying this one for anything..... We need a new welcome message..
The change does not need to be immediate.... but mebbe by the end of exams.. I propose that we leave this blog for a new one... which will be abt days after leaving college. I am definite that it'll be a headache.. but that's something i am willing to undertake.....

hi.. i got f****d today.. my exam was not gud... i'd a series of Kelas today.. 1st, i took a dtc(221) frm my place that goes to isbt.. then on shahadra red light i saw 982 dtc( goes direct to campus frm my place).. mp book was in my hand.. as soon as i got out of 221 to catch 982.. signal was green.. and i was left stranded there.. then i ran to catch 982.. but all in vain. it had gone too far then.. then i'd to walk a gud distance in d sun to go to the bus stop.. 2nd, wen i reached arts faculty.. i cudnt find ,my roll no on the list pasted outside on da notice board.. then i had to go to the office to get myself registered.. they made me to sign some form.. 3rd, paper was not difficult but i cudnt remember what i had studied.. and i really made a mess of the micro paper.. then while coming back.. i was again left stranded.. this time on the bus stop..while coming back.. suddenly, all DTCs had dried up.. n i cudnt find a single dtc to go to isbt bus stop n finally took a private to go to isbt after 30 minutes just to find out that if i'd had waited a minute more . i'd hv got 982 direct dtc bus.. but this time i took it frm isbt n reached home.. but that was not enuf.. called up moti n got to know... these college ppl have gone mad.. they're not givin clearance.. nd that chakka rajender is tellin that roll nos have not yet come frm university.. what a big lie? i saw all roll nos in his hand wen i took it for my er papers.. these assholes will not give clearance until v submit our research paper.. 3 copies.. thats the bottom line.. i heard that divya also had a kela.. wen she was found of havin full attendance in gk n zero marks in other subjects.. seriously, i m thinking of making a website: fuckcbs.tripod.com ... how's that?

hi assholes, wats going on?, i hope i didnt miss much .....in terms of masti of course. i came back jst today only. all through my train journey i could only hear the constant jabber of the bengalis as they had filled up 80% of the train. while going to durgapur , the journey was nice. the air hostesses of the air sahara flight were stunning .........and even the air steward wasn't bad .........i hope sotu and aniket are listening. and after landing at the airport v took a taxi to howrah railway station. and i got a good view of kolkatta . if u ask me how does kolkatta look like ... well... i would say its 1 big chandni chowk. then v arrived to the famous howrah junction. man, i have never seen so many people at 1 place b4. there was madness all around. that sation has 21 platforms, bigger than the new delhi one. v arrived at durgapur at 8 at night and went on to find a guest house and managed to find a good 1 at a good price. it had good facilities like ac, tv, etc.. except for 1 thing, it didn't have a mirror in da loo. and boy, only i kno how i shaved in the morning without a mirror. when i came outside to have a view in da mirror, there were deep cuts on my chin and neck and blood was oozing out.
then i went for the interview in a bus, which i took from the railway station. the college is very huge. after arriving i was told that gd will take place after 10 min and it did. gd was fine , i spoke less but raised some good points. and then i was made to face the firing squad...........the interview......
as my luck would have it 2 people were taking the intervw, and 1 guy was from dept. of computer engg. after asking the general questions like 'tell me about yourself ', hobbies etc they screwed me for 15 min on technical stuff.

then he fired Ques . from digital electronics, csa, micro processors, etc...

then he asked what my favourite subject was ..and i said dbms, and guess wat , i answered every ques. that he asked on database barring 1 or 2.

but i guess it was too late by then.
so guys,if u have mba on ur mind b sure that u either have good academics or u have work ex. ,
otherwise it will get very tough to clr the interview stage.

I know its a old and often repeated story.......... but today i letta fly it out...... my life sucks.... i have nothing in life other than a lot and lot and lot of kelas.......... so in all nothing new..... another day.... another kela.... ........
If someone asks me 10 yrs later what the hell did i do in college........... most probably i'll only rememebr that i had more kelas than tham mittal had GBs of porn................ my kelas are the stuff legends are made of....
Even if anyone of u remember me after this damn college is over......... even u will remember this only........
The last day of college........... finally.......... now just another trip to collect the damn roll number... and then the college can kiss my ass goodbye...............

Just received a call from a old friend..... my kinda guy... he is doing Btech... got through the Infosys interview and landed himself a job.... kudos to him.... but really made me feel worse than the dirt at the bottom of a cockroach's legs...... where the hell am i going....

And while i am cribbing........i hate the name sotu......... and i hate the name kelaman.. even though if i have earned it..

the 49.5 % reservation sucks...... so does arjun singh... and VP singh.....

well BHALAYI KA TO KOI ZAMANA HI NAHIN RAHA..eq. jiske liye maine library wali teacher se ladayi ki vo mujhse hi ldayi kar rahi hai..see this is happening..
i never felt wrong to SA sir..but maine ek baar tiwari ko haath lagaya to mujhe hi pakad liya.. vo kutte kamine, haath diye hote hai,idher udher, vo nahin dikhta.. MARKS hai jo aate nahin, Naukri to abhi tak mili hi nahin,.. kya ho raha hai yeh...
anyways everything happens for the best.. so i hope that its being better for me.. and college's countdown is started..

This time around i really got nothing to put here..... infact am so overburdened with work right now that i dont feel like working at all..... so what's better way to kill time than google hopping......

Anyway,borrowing the title from Sg's algo classes, here is a list of worst case professions for the bloggers, if nothing else works, give these options a consideration:

Arjun: Computer mechanic
Salil:Computer salesman/technician
He-Man: Pehelwaan mascot for the local gym..or gym owner,at best
Adesh: Maths tutor to small kids, SA no. 2..
Yogi:Government babu, sitting and giving Gaalis to anyone and everyone.
Jhamb: Singer at some resteraunt.
Mohit:Mobile salesman.
Ruchi:College teacher with kids she can't control..mixture of AG,RP.
Me:Becoming a counsellor ---giving lectures and presentations.

Talking of presentations--the research paper presentation turned out to be real lame ---I expected something bigger.

The chichora grp. again were very lucky as their darling teacher SA took their viva...damn unfair ,I tell you..
Anyway another outing plan got cancelled ..I am so fed up with these cancellations that I don't even care abt going out with coll. ppl anymore..bhad mein jaiye sab.

But last 2-3 days of the college coming up...how abt organising ur own farewell...u know cutting a cake and photos etc...RJ farewell style{wish it cud done without their grp. tho}? wat say everybody.......
